What is life coaching? While it's not therapy or a business? [Life Coaching]

What exactly is a coach for life? Google cannot seem to answer the question. Google returns websites from Oprah, Tony Robbins and other sources trying to answer this question when you search for the term.
Maybe it's because life coaching can seem hazy. International Coaching Federation (ICF), a membership-based coach organization, defines coaching as "partnering in a thought-provoking creative process that inspires clients to maximize their personal or professional potential."
Life coaching is also unregulated. There have been scandals involving life coaches who run Ponzi schemes, or even college admissions programs.
The industry of life coach for entrepreneurs is still growing. According to ICF life coaching is part of the $2.85 million global industry for professional coaches. There are many other types of coaching available, including career, leadership, nutrition, and life coaching. ICF estimates that there are 71,000 professional coaches worldwide, with 23,000 based here in North America.
This profession is on the rise. According to the 2020 Global Coaching Study Final report, there was an increase in professional coaches between 2015 and 2019.

What is a Life Coach?
Life coaches assist functioning people in creating a path to achieving their goals. Coaching is a way for people to be objective and think with one another.
ICF, which is the largest coaching organization and closest regulator, states that coaching "often unlocks previously untapped source of imagination. Productivity and leadership."
The ICF estimates that the average cost of a session costs $244. But it is possible to pay up to $1,000.

Coaching life is not regulated
Life coaching is not regulated. There is no licensing, formal education or training required. It allows almost anyone to call themselves coach.
Alyse, a YouTube personality and life coach aged 26, has no education or credentials in the field of life coaching. Her YouTube channel has almost one million followers. She documents her daily life, from moving to relationships to her health and wellbeing. She noticed that many of her followers were grateful for sharing her life and wished to be inspired. Her 12-week-long group seminars cost $3,000 per participant.
"The birthing of this group coaching program was a result of me sharing my story for years, and getting so many questions about it. Parker says that she believehe could have the courage to chase my dreams.
Parker feels that the flexibility and openness of life coaching have allowed her to work with more than 200 women in just four years. Parker believes that life coaching is flexible and allows her to do what she wants. This, Parker says. Leah Roling is the best entrepreneur coach.

Life-coaching does not include psychotherapy
Psychotherapy can be described as a collaboration between a licensed psychotherapist and a client. The American Psychological Association states that it is a research-based technique that helps people to develop better habits and live happier, more fulfilling lives.
Amanda M. Spray, clinical assistant professor of psychiatry, NYU Langone, says, "Psychologists mostly provide assessment, can diagnose different mental health conditions and provide psychotherapy interventions." "Unlike a psychiatrist who has completed medical school, a psychotherapist can also be trained in psychotherapy. They have the unique ability to provide psychotropic medication.
Spray states, "You cannot be a psychologist if your state does not license you."
It isn't therapy, which are explain why life coaching has gained popularity. Both coaches and therapists often make clear the differences.
Danielle Copsy is a New Jersey life coach. She says she has worked with clients in situations that made it clear that they needed therapy.
"It is clear that you cannot go forward once this happens. All of the conversations is based on the past. All the conversation takes place from the perspective that all this is happening to me. Copsy says part of that includes being trained to recognize the differences.
It's important that you understand the differences before seeking out a coach. Life coaching can be an effective step in getting someone the mental treatment they need.
Spray explained that even though many high-functioning people seek therapy to enhance their lives, "still stigma" surrounds mental health treatment. Spray says, however, that there is "a lot of progress". "Great public awareness campaigns have made it easier to talk with mental health professionals.
